It was recognition as a protected area even before Uganda got independence but really rose to global prominence when the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II visited it in 1956. After her visit, the park was named after her.
Queen Elizabeth National park is located in Kasese district (western part of Uganda) and a few miles away from the Rwenzori Mountains. It is a typical savanna park with many of Africa’s famous mammals – lions, leopards, buffaloes and elephants. Other wildlife species include elands, Uganda kobs, hyenas, mongoose, warthog, wild pigs and many more. Queen Elizabeth national park is also an important birding area in Uganda. It has over 600 species of birds. What makes the park special is the landscape and scenery. Queen Elizabeth National Park remains relatively green for much of the year and because of that appeals to those who love nature. It also has changing landscape, features like the Kyambura gorge and the Maramagambo forest.
The main activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park are game drives, a Boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, lion tracking, mongoose tracking, birding, nature walks and chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge. Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at the airport – travel to queen Elizabeth national park – Launch Cruise at the Kazinga channel
You will be received by our friendly Guide/Driver from Entebbe Airport or your hotel. After a briefing about the tour, the driver will start the journey to Western Uganda and to Queen Elizabeth national park. You will use the Masaka-Mbarara-Kasese route. Driving through this particular route is very smooth because the roads are well paved and full of beautiful scenery (lakes, rivers and national parks). Expect to reach Queen Elizabeth National Park by mid-day. You will check in at your lodge and also have lunch as you prepare for the launch cruise at the Kazinga channel.
In the afternoon, you will be driven towards Lake Edward to start the boat ride. A park Ranger will receive all tourists and brief them about the rules to be followed while on the boat cruise. The boat leaves land at 2:00pm after everyone has been given a life jacket. The Kazinga Channel is 32 kilometers long and starts from lake Edward to lake George. While on the boat, you will spot different species of aquatic animals like crocodiles, schools of hippos, waterbucks, elephants and birds. The activity lasts for 3 hours and by the time you complete, you would be left satisfied with the experience.

Day 2: Game viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park – Departure
After your breakfast, you will be taken for a game drive on the savanna plains of the Kasenyi sector. Kasenyi sector has the highest concentration of wildlife in the park. The animals to look out for while on the plains are lions, elephants, buffaloes, elands, hyenas, oribis, reedbucks, topis and more. Your game viewing session will end at midday. After the game drive, you will be taken back to your lodge for lunch. You will then set off to Entebbe in a long journey that will take about 5 hours. When you reach Buwama in Masaka, you will stop at the equator crossing for photography and buying souvenir.
The equator crossing is an imaginary line that demarcates the earth’s northern and southern hemispheres. Uganda is one of the few countries where you can put your leg on the north and southern hemisphere at the same time. You will try the water experiment which proves that the equator actually passes through the area. The equator mark is excellent for taking photographs to show your friends. If interested in African crafts, you will find many artisan shops selling different items. The stopover will last for between 30 to 45 minutes after which you will continue the journey to Entebbe airport for departure. Our company driver will drop you off at the airport in the evening and that will be the end of your tour.

Travel Tips
In order to have the best experience during your 2 days queen Elizabeth national park safari, pack clothes that are suitable for as safari, hiking boots, a hat/ cap, sunglasses, binoculars, a very good camera, insect repellents and hand sanitizer. You might also want to move with antibiotics and pain killers. The trip caters for all types of travelers – luxury, mid-range or budget travelers. There are different accommodation options as you will notice from this itinerary and the final choice will depend on what you are willing to pay for.
This 2 days safari is offered throughout the year since Queen Elizabeth national park is open every day and the tourism activities continue regardless of the season. Jacana Safari Lodge: Jacana Safari Lodge is built close to the Maramagambo forest and next to Lake Nyamusingire. The lodge is surrounded by thick forest hence offering guests that jungle experience with loud echoes of the monkeys, baboons, reptiles and amphibians. The lodge’s 12 rooms are self-contained with each having a veranda, en-suite wash rooms, a study desk, wireless internet and standard European-size beds. Both international and local dishes are prepared. Jacana Safari Lodge is an excellent lodge for those who want to escape away from noisy urban centres and settle in a quiet and wild environment.
Kazinga Channel View Resort: Kazinga Channel view resort is located a few miles away from Katunguru gate. This is the main entrance of Queen Elizabeth National park from the Kasese-Mbarara road. It is also 6 kilometres away from the Chimpanzee tracking point in Kyambura gorge. Kazinga Channel View Resort is a standard accommodation facility with walled units/rooms and tented bandas. The constructed units are all self-contained but with a little elegance. The lodge also has a shared dining hall for its guest where different types of cuisines are served.
Simba Safari Camp: This is a low-priced accommodation facility in Queen Elizabeth national park. It is built close to the Kasenyi sector, one of the most popular game drive tracks in the park. Simba Safari Camp is a very large rest house that can accommodate over 50 guests a night. It has standard rooms, family cottages and dormitories for its visitors. The bar and restaurant serve tasty food and beverages to clients.
Buffalo Safari Lodge: This Lodge is also located near Katunguru gate adjacent to the magnificent Kazinga channel. It is a standard accommodation facility with 17 en-suite resting units. The whole compound has wireless internet but there is also a great bar and restaurant in place. Buffalo Safari Lodge also has exterior terraces for viewing the beautiful and natural surrounding environment. Moreover, because of its wilderness location, the lodge rewards guests with sights of different wild animals like buffaloes, elephants, elands, oribis and Uganda kobs.
